Who would have thought our world would be changed for another year?
Once again our 29th Christmas tour will be the Avondale Estates Christmas Tour of Lights on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 5:30-8:30.
Twelve homes representing the various styles of architecture in our city will be featured for the tour. Three of the 1926 “Avondale Originals” will be lit up this year...one transformed into a gingerbread house, another featuring a red carpet leading through Christmas trees to the home flanked by six-foot nutcrackers and lit by an oversized “Joy,” and a third decorated very colorfully with crazy Christmas creatures out front. The two lots on either side were developed in 2014 with two new Craftsmen! One home will feature lighting around the railings, Santa on the roof, and several “blow-ups” in the yard, while the other will showcase a festive display of lights with just a touch of tacky.
The trees along Berkeley Road will once again be lit and lead to three houses on the tour, a Craftsman built in 2016 decorated with wreaths, lights, and seasonal greenery, a 1950s Ranch with lights on the roof and trees and stars and a Christmas gnome out front, and a 1951 Modified Ranch decorated in a very traditional manner with lush greenery and large red bows.
Other homes on the tour include three traditional homes featuring lots of lights, greenery, wreaths and more! Lights will be everywhere at a magnificent showplace on Hess Drive one of the largest homes in Avondale built in 1964 and the decorations on Nottingham Drive will be a surprise but will definitely include thousands of lights!
In addition to the featured homes, the city will be “lit up” along every street, in the Avondale Estates Business District and in the plazas around town. Take a Winter Walk around the floating Christmas tree on Avondale Lake and visit Santa at the Avondale Community Club!
The Avondale Holiday Market is back! There will be an in-person market for the first time in two years on December 12th from noon to 6pm at the Avondale Community Club. The 2021 market will be a bit smaller, but most of the old favorites are back selling their hand-knitted scarves, pecans, jewelry, photography, bird feeders, smoked salmon, jams and ornaments. In order to keep everyone safe and comfortable, masks will be required. Please come support our market vendors and finish off your Christmas shopping list with one-of-a-kind gifts. Constellation Energy of Atlanta is the Holiday Market Sponsor and is paying all vendor fees. Constellation Energy strives to help build a better community in Atlanta by supporting local small businesses and initiatives.
You may purchase tour tickets at Finders Keepers Consignment, Garage Door Studio or Avondale City Hall for $20 per car or online at bigtickets.com for $25 per car.
In another year filled with loss and change, let’s end 2021 in Avondale Estates with light and hope for a New Year!
